Veneers vs. Dental Implants: What is Best for Me?

When people think of cosmetic dentistry the terms veneer and dental implants are most often what come to mind.  While they are both viable options when it comes to cosmetic needs, they serve two very different purposes. Deciding between veneers and dental implants is dependent on the problem you are trying to fix. Simply put, veneers aesthetically enhance your smile when you still have your own teeth, while dental implants are used when there are missing teeth.

When Veneers are The Best Choice…
Veneers are a conservative way to esthetically or cosmetically improve the look of healthy teeth. They are ultra-thin pieces of porcelain, or a material called “composite,” that is bonded right to the front surface of someone’s teeth. Veneers are most commonly used to improve the shape, length, and color or brightness of someone’s smile.  They can be done with very little and in some cases no alterations to your natural teeth.

When Dental Implants are the Best Choice…
Dental implants, on the other hand, are used to replace teeth that are missing, lost due to trauma or infection, or severely broken. They are an artificial replacement for a natural tooth that is no longer present. Dental implants can replace a single tooth or all of your teeth depending on your need. Dental implants are one of the more successful treatment options in dentistry when all aspects of the procedure and functional aspects are performed with the utmost care by a trained and experienced dentist or specialist.
